Ryan is currently pursuing his JD from the University of Virginia School of Law. Upon graduation in 2017, he will return to Chicago to work as a litigation associate at Winston & Strawn. Ryan teaches legal reasoning to cadets at Virginia Military Institute and directs one-week “academic boot-camps” for veterans during the summer as part of the Warrior-Scholar Project. Prior to law school, he earned his BA in International Studies from the University of Michigan and his AA in Arabic from the Defense Language Institute. From 2010-2012, Ryan spent two years teaching English and debate at an inner-city high school in Detroit as part of Teach For America. From 2005-2010, he served five years active duty as an enlisted Arabic translator in the Marine Corps, which included two deployments to Al-Anbar province in Iraq.
