Travis Klempan was born and raised in Colorado. He joined the Navy as a Hospital Corpsman and served with the Marines of 1st Maintenance Battalion. He was accepted into the US Naval Academy and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in English. He served aboard USS Princeton and completed a year-long joint tour at Camp Victory, Iraq, before serving as Officer in Charge of the Mobile At-Sea Sensor in Barking Sands, Hawaii. Travis left the Navy and earned his Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing & Poetics from the Jack Kerouac School at Naropa University in Boulder, Colorado, where he teaches undergraduate writing.
