David Weich was most recently the Clerk of Court for the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Western District of North Carolina. He managed federal courts for the Middle District of Florida, the District of Oregon, and the Southern District of Indiana for over 30 years. He considered it an honor and privilege to be able to give citizens a fresh start as contemplated under the United States bankruptcy laws.
Prior to his court career, David served as a Lieutenant in the U.S. Navy as a Naval Flight Officer. He flew EC-130 Hercules with Fleet Air Reconnaissance Squadron 4 (VQ-4) out of NAS Patuxent River, Maryland. His mission was relaying emergency action messages to the deployed nuclear forces during the Cold War.
While serving shore duty, David was attached to the Model Manager for Naval Aviation Water Survival at NAS Pensacola, Florida. There he taught deep water survival training, trained water survival instructors, evaluated the Navy’s water survival facilities, and evaluated procedures and equipment. He was most proud to be a member of the team to write, edit, and produce the Navy’s first water survival manual. This assignment was vital because it gave aircrew every chance for survival.
David graduated from the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) with a Bachelor of Arts in History with an English minor.
David and his wife Julia are retired and live in Athens, Georgia. David’s interests are World War II history, travel, and exercise.
