Hira Byrne Paulin

Hira began her educational journey at a community college earning her A.A. in Liberal Arts. She then used a transfer pathway to attend Springfield College where she earned a B.S. in Rehabilitation & Disability Studies, as well as her M.Ed. in Rehabilitation Counseling. She is a PhD candidate in Health Sciences at Northern Illinois University, her research focus is moral injury in military populations.

She has a combined over 20 years of personal and professional experience with people with disabilities. She is a Certified Rehabilitation Counselor who specializes in working with military affiliated populations with service-connected injuries and/or disabilities. She has held varying positions in higher education, veteran initiative project coordinator, instructor in the baccalaureate and community college settings, and community college disability counselor. Her work centers on demystifying higher education culture for student veterans, and as well as creating veteran inclusive pathways to accessing and utilizing campus disability services. She is the spouse of a career enlisted Marine.
