Julia (Joo Yeon) Shin

Julia (Joo Yeon) Shin is a medical student at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. She graduated from Smith College before enlisting as an Army Medic (68W) through the Military Accessions Vital to National Interest (MAVNI) program. In 2014, She earned the Expert Field Medical Badge (EFMB) as an Honor Graduate while she was stationed in Korea. The following year, she PCSed to Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, MD, and provided medical assistance at 5 East medical-surgical in-patient ward. After serving as an EFMB instructor at Fort Dix in 2017, she was selected to be an executive assistant at US Army Element-North, assisting the Commander and Sergeant Major with their daily tasks and duties. In 2018, she enrolled in Columbia University’s post-baccalaureate premedical program to complete prerequisite courses. She was accepted to Mount Sinai through the Linkage program, an agreement between Columbia University and medical schools to allow post-baccalaureate premed students to matriculate immediately after completing the program.
