Mary Swanson

Mary Swanson is a post 9/11 veteran who left Waterboro, Maine, to join the United States Marine Corps at 17. Currently a Senior at the University of Southern Maine, she serves as the Parliamentarian for the Board of Student Organizations and the Student Government Association. She is formerly SVA Chapter Husky Veterans, President. Also, she volunteers her time to various clubs, committees, and entities on campus. Mary was selected in 2018 to represent The University of Southern Maine at the Margaret Chase Policy Institute for Maine New Emerging Leaders Summit and then went on to complete a legislative fellowship working for the NGO, Maine People’s Alliance. Aspiring to succeed to the fullest academically, she attended the Warrior-Scholar Project Class of 2019 at Texas A&M University and now serves as an Alumni Ambassador. In 2020, Mary was selected to attend the MFRI Focus Forward Fellowship at Purdue, all while also completing The Washington Centers Virtual Summer Academic Internship and working for the NGO Peace through Culture. She is a mother of two children Mackenzie and Jaxon and is a law school candidate for the Fall of 2021. Mary would like to pursue a career as a child advocate attorney.
