Matthew Burtell served in the United States Navy aboard the USS Ronald Reagan from 2014 to 2018. He began his time aboard the Japan-based aircraft carrier as a helpdesk technician and trained to the role of a system administrator and supervisor, eventually earning the rank of Information Systems Technician Petty Officer Second Class. After his time in service, Matthew moved home to Michigan and enrolled in courses at Washtenaw Community College. With the support of Service to School, Matthew was accepted at Yale University, where he will begin in the fall of 2019 as a Computer Science major. His interests include cycling and admiring his family’s pet opossum from afar.
