Matthew Preston

Matt is a 2L from Florida, Texas, and Indiana. Before law school, Matt served as a loadmaster in the U.S. Air Force and then as an Apache helicopter crew chief in the U.S. Army. After the military, Matt graduated from IUPUI with a triple major in Philosophy, Political Science, and Latino Studies and a triple minor in Women’s Studies, Legal Studies, and Spanish. During undergrad, Matt was a pest control service manager at Bugs-B-Gone. After undergrad, Matt was the policy analyst intern at the Indiana State Senate. At Michigan Law, Matt has served as a senior editor for the Michigan Law Review, the president of the Michigan Law Veterans Society, the treasurer of the First Generation Law Students, an interviewer for the Faculty Hiring Committee, and a student attorney for the Workers’ Rights Clinic. Matt maintains status as a Sentinel of Freedom, a National AMVETS Scholar, and a Hispanic Scholarship Fund Scholar. Matt spent his 1L summer as a Leadership Council on Legal Diversity (LCLD) Scholar at Simpson Thacher & Bartlett. In addition, Matt serves a peer tutor for law students from disadvantaged and non-traditional backgrounds.
