Richard Hakes was born in Denver, CO. He was a Senior Chief with 20+ years in the US Navy, primarily in Special Operations. RJ has more than 10 deployments including Iraq, Afghanistan, the middle-east, and Africa. After his retirement, he attended the Warrior Scholar Project at Harvard University and is currently pursuing a B.A. in Mediterranean Archaeology, with triple minors in Ancient History, Anthropology, and Archaeological Science at the University of Pennsylvania. RJ is an active member of the Eta Sigma Phi national honors society for Classical Studies, the Penn Curling Team, and Penn Boxing Club. In 2020 he will participate archaeological excavations at ancient UNESCO World Heritage Sites in Spain and Turkey. Additionally, he represented Penn and the Ivy League Student Veterans at the 2020 Student Veterans of America National Convention.
