Battle Scars: A book discussion with Chip Reid ’77 and members of the Vassar Veterans Association

Journalist Chip Reid ’77 will discuss his recent book Battle Scars. Chip was a correspondent for NBC News and spent six weeks side-by-side with 3d Battalion 5th Marines as they fought their way from Kuwait to Baghdad in 2003. Twenty years later, Chip sat down with the Marines of 3/5 once more as they told him their stories of battle, brotherhood, those that were lost, patriotism, and belief in the mission. They also discussed the long-term impact of war on themselves and their families. They spoke of recovery and success in both military and civilian life, of their gratitude for life, and the concept of Post-Traumatic Growth. This book is a tribute to the Marines for their service, and for the many sacrifices they made then, and that many still make today.

The event will be moderated by the Vassar Veterans Association and is open to the public. Copies of Battle Scars will be available for purchase.

Sponsored by the Office of Veteran Students Outreach and Support, the President's Office, and the student organization Vassar Veterans Association.
