Fireside Chat:

With Tillman Scholars and National Security Leaders: Building a Fellowship-Ready Story

Join us January 16 at 6pm EST for a fireside chat that will bring together Moises and Omer, both Tillman Scholars and accomplished veterans who have earned roles and fellowships at Harvard, MIT, the Atlantic Council, Management Leadership for Tomorrow, the Belfer Center, and more. They will break down how to convert military experience into a clear value proposition, craft a fellowship-ready story, and navigate competitive selection processes. Students will have the chance to ask candid questions and get practical guidance they can apply to their own applications.

Pathways to Practice:

A Student Veteran Fireside Chat on Mental Health Careers

Student veterans interested in careers in psychology, counseling, social work, and related helping professions are invited to join this virtual fireside chat—offered as part of Service to School’s To & Through program, which supports veterans not just getting into school, but navigating the academic and professional path beyond admission.

This session is designed to give you direct access to professionals and graduate students currently working in mental health and human services who have taken a variety of paths into the field. You’ll have the opportunity to ask questions about choosing a major, applying to graduate school, licensure pathways, balancing school with work, and what day-to-day life actually looks like in these careers.

Our panel brings experience across clinical practice, organizational psychology, counseling, social work, research, and training and development, with backgrounds spanning healthcare, government, higher education, and the private sector. Several speakers are veterans or have extensive experience working with military-connected populations, and all are prepared to speak candidly about challenges, telling your story in applications, and building a career that aligns with your values and goals.

Whether you are early in your academic journey or actively planning for graduate school, this conversation is designed to help you understand your options, clarify next steps, and continue building momentum—to and through your education and into meaningful work.
