GEN Joseph L. Votel, Fmr. Commander of CENTCOM, Joins Service to School Board of Directors
Washington D.C.– Service to School (S2S) is pleased to announce the appointment of General Joseph L. Votel (Ret.) to its board of directors. Retiring in March 2019, General Votel’s distinguished service spanned 39 years in the United States Army including presidential nominations as Commander of US Special Operations Command (USSOCOM) and the US Central Command (USCENTCOM).
During his Army Career GEN Votel served in both conventional and special operations assignments. In his last position as the USCENTCOM Commander he oversaw all military operations in the Middle East, Levant and Central and South Asia. He previously served as the Commander of the Joint Special Operations Command; the Deputy Commanding General of the 82nd Airborne Division and Commander of the 75th Ranger Regiment.
“GEN Votel is a soldier’s soldier, a distinguished warrior and accomplished commander. We could not be more thrilled to have him join our board. His wisdom and experience will guide Service to School to new levels of growth and will allow us to help more veterans achieve their educational goals,” said Gus Giacoman, Chairman of the Board.
GEN Votel will serve on S2S’s board of directors as they continue their work transforming outcomes for veterans seeking higher education and increasing access to exceptional academic programs.

Since 2011, S2S has ensured transitioning servicemembers and veterans are applying and gaining admittance to the country’s best undergrad, business, law, and graduate programs so that they may best prepare for their next chapter of leadership.
