September 11th, 2024 at 5PM, University of Maryland’s Smith Vets are excited to celebrate a very special addition to Van Munching Hall.
For more than a century, the University of Maryland has hosted military-connected students committed to the study of business and management. Their presence in our classrooms has made our school better. Their leadership and success have inspired us. Their service has defended our right to work, learn, and live in freedom.
A New Smith Vets Memorial: The Robert H. Smith School of Business has always celebrated our veterans. Now, we want every learner, partner, and visitor to Van Munching Hall to join us. Come see our new space built to inspire and sustain Smith's part of Maryland's "Old Line" legacy.
A Solemn Honor Roll: Sadly but significantly, 27 of these veterans gave their lives in military service. They deserve to be remembered... always. So, part of our memorial is just for them. Their names will forever be part of our great hall. Their stories will be forever part of ours. Read them here. We hope you'll learn more about them when you come.
A Day of Significance: The Honor Roll of our lost Smithmates starts with the class of 1939. But you may notice the three at the top are much more recent. They died in service together in the attack on the Pentagon September 11th, 2001. We know this date inspires a range of emotions for many in our nation. We have a simple ask this year. Spend a couple hours of your day thinking of them, those they followed, and those they left behind.
